Root Canal

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is a dental procedure that involves removing infected or damaged tissue from the inside of a tooth. The procedure is necessary when the pulp, which contains the nerves and blood vessels, becomes infected or damaged due to decay, trauma, or other reasons.

What to Expect

The root canal treatment procedure involves the following steps:

An X-ray is taken to assess the extent of the damage.

Local anesthesia is administered to numb the area around the tooth.

A small hole is made in the top of the tooth to access the pulp chamber.

The damaged or infected pulp is removed using specialized instruments.

The root canals are cleaned and shaped to prepare them for filling.

The root canals are filled with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha, and a temporary filling is placed on top.

A follow-up appointment is scheduled to place a permanent filling or dental crown to protect the tooth.
