Although scars are a natural part of the skin’s healing process, they can cause pain, inconvenience, and self-consciousness. Most small scars will become nearly invisible if given enough time to heal, but for scars that are large, thick, indented, or raised, scar treatment is available to reduce their appearance.

FAQ

A common cause of facial scarring is severe adolescent or adult acne. Although these scars persist long after the acne has subsided, they can often be minimized by using one or a combination of acne scar treatment methods.
Our qualified dermatologist can help you decide which scar removal treatment is right for you. Although complete scar removal is not possible, most scars can be significantly improved in appearance through one or more cosmetic techniques, including microdermabrasion, chemical peels, collagen injections, and fat transfer procedures. Microdermabrasion and chemicals peels are ablative procedures that involve the removal of regeneration of the top layer of skin; microdermabrasion is generally less invasive when compared to chemical peels. Injections of collagen, fat, or dermal can be used to fill in the depression left by a scar, minimizing it appearance. Your dermatologist may also recommend a cream, gel, or bandage that contains silicon to help reduce scar visibility and pain.
For severe scarring, surgery can be used to minimize the scar’s appearance. However, surgery can create new scars and is usually only appropriate for scars that are very wide, long, or otherwise prominent.
